Financial Aid

One of OKYO's Core Values is that music is for everyone! Our Staff and Board of Directors desire that no student or family walk away from Oklahoma Youth Orchestras due to financial hardship. We fundraise year-round to be able to provide tuition assistance for families in need. If you are unsure whether or not your family is eligible for Financial Aid, please contact Executive Director Melody Garza Mikkelsen.

Criteria for Awarding Financial Aid

Financial aid will be granted based upon availability of funds, demonstrated financial/family need, and level of commitment expressed by the student. Assistance will only be given in the form of credit toward tuition. Trip expenses, rentals, merchandise, and fees are not included. Students receiving Financial Aid totaling more than one-half the original cost of tuition are not eligible for the monthly payment plan.

We strongly encourage any student or family with financial concerns to reach out to our Conductors or Support Staff - we are here to help and want to remove barriers for students wishing to join OKYO.

Special Scholarships

Students in Festival Strings and Rockin' Strings are eligible to request a Special Scholarship, which is a simplified version of Financial Aid. Instead of filling out the online application, families are encouraged to speak with their ensemble Conductor and our Executive Director to share your family's situation. The most common cases where Special Scholarships are requested and awarded are for families with students who are eligible for the Federal Free and Reduced-price meals program.
