Andrew Barrington

OYP Winds & Brass Coach

Andrew Barrington has a lifelong passion for music ministry. Born to Salvation
Army officer (pastor) parents, his early musical training was guided by his father, Major Tony Barrington, who played a pivotal role in nurturing Andrew's love for music. His formal education included principal studies with Donald Strand (tuba) and James Curnow (composition), both of whom greatly influenced his musical development. Through Salvation Army music programs and conservatories, Andrew further refined his skills as a tuba performer and composer, eventually becoming a published composer himself.

Andrew’s career within The Salvation Army has been marked by significant
leadership roles. He previously served as the Assistant Divisional Music Director for the Georgia Division and as the Corps (church) Music Director in Fairfax, Virginia, where he was also the Deputy Bandmaster of the National Capital Band. In these roles, he provided mentorship to musicians, led ensembles, and contributed to the growth of Salvation Army music ministry.

Currently, Andrew serves as the Divisional Music Director for the Arkansas and
Oklahoma Division. In this capacity, he oversees music programming, directs
ensembles, and fosters the development of young musicians throughout Arkansas and Oklahoma. He also serves as the principal tuba player and Deputy Bandmaster for the Southern Staff Band of The Salvation Army, where he continues to demonstrate musical excellence and leadership. Additionally, Andrew is a longtime brass coach for the Oklahoma Youth Orchestras, where he shares his passion for brass performance with the next generation of musicians.
Andrew resides in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with his wife, Connie Barrington,
who serves as the principal tenor horn of the Southern Staff Band. Together, they are proud parents of four children: Anthony, Ella, Talitha, and Wesley.
